Should I whip my hair back & forth? LMK.
The white girl weave, aka beaded row extensions, are all the rage right now and one of my most asked about topics. I’m here to give you the low down on these type of extensions and why I love them so much. I am currently using Laced hair and stand behind the quality of the hair 100%. I love my hair and will be the first to tell you how much I love my extensions. They make my mornings super low maintenance since they hold curl for days and give you ponytail #goals with little to no effort. I am teaming up with Laced to give away a set a hair of your choice and all you have to do is : 1) Follow & Like my IG post on my page about the giveaway 2) Follow @LacedHairExtensions IG account and sign up for their email subscriptions (which is located at the very bottom of the page)…and that is ALL!
What Type of Extensions:
It’s real human hair that comes in wefts, thats never been colored or chemical treated, meaning the hair is excellent quality. It is 100% human Indian remy hair, which is the best you can get. It both looks and feels amazing. The hand tied wefts are placed horizontally across your head using beads and your real hair. The weft is then beaded into the rows but this has to be professionally installed…definitely not something you and your girlfriends could try to do at home. The rows, depending on how many you get (I have 2 rows) go from one side of your head around to the other. I layer 2 wefts per row, which is fairly low, but you can go up to 6 wefts per row for super thick hair. The installation process takes about 3 hours and there is no glue or tape involved.
Make sure you go to a stylist who is qualified to install them, as this process is extremely important to maintaining your hair health. She is both gorgeous, sweet, and I laugh the entire time I’m with her! 🙂
How To Maintain Your Weave:
So to start out I prime my hair with the Meraki Vitamin Mist. This product fills your hair and should be applied after you get out of the shower on damp hair. It strengthens and prevents breakage with Vitamin E & Horsetail Extract, has UV and heat protectant, and adds light moisture. (I actually mist my hair with this EVERY morning whether I wash it or not. It smells wonderful and it is SO good for your hair!!) You need to keep the weave hydrated…this is extremely important to maintaining your weft so you can use it for longer periods of time.
I blow-dry my hair with the Dyson hairdryer. This bad boy is pricey but dang, it is SO worth it!! With a traditional hair dryer it takes about 45-60 min to dry my hair…with the Dyson I can be done in about 15 minutes no problem!! It’s a lifesaver for me and I can’t say enough good things about it!! However, I realize that its expensive and not in everyones budget so I also love the T3 dryer as an alternative. After blow drying and before curling, I spray my hair with the Hot Oil Shine. This creates a light shine, seals off your hair from humidity and prevents frizz, and protects your curls for hot tools.
To curl my hair I use the T3 curling wand. I take about a one-inch section of hair, wrap it loosely around the barrel away from my face, leaving about an inch at the bottom that you don’t curl to give you those mermaid waves instead of a traditional barrel curl. Hold it there for about 10 seconds and drop the curl. If the curl is too tight, you can pull on it and loosen the curl before it sets. It takes me under 10 minutes to do my entire head with this curling iron and my curls last 3-4 days. Seriously…I rock them for 5 days sometimes and they still look great. Thank goodness for dry shampoo! But if you are looking for a less expensive curling wand, I’ve used this one in the past and it’s well worth the money as well!
After curling my hair, I spray texture spray to set the curls and that adds DAYS to how long the styling will last. It also adds body to the roots and the ends and gives it that beachy look. That is all…after that I’m running out the door!
***All of my hair products are vegan and cruelty free!!!
Pros & Cons:
PROS – They are extremely beautiful and low maintenance. They last for 6-8 weeks (but I can usually stretch mine for 8-10 weeks) and honestly I forget that they are even in my head most of the time because they are so comfortable. If you take care of the hair and avoid excessive ripping, blow drying, & heat styling, they will last for a LONG time…usually around 8 months to a year. If you have long hair already, you are probably used to not washing your hair every single day but girls who are transitioning from short hair to super long need to be aware that you can stretch your washes out a few days to greatly extend the life of your weave. {Thank God for dry shampoo!!} The hair tends to hold curl a lot longer than your normal hair so a quick brush through and a spritz of dry shampoo & vitamin mist and you are ready to go for several days. They also do not damage your real hair which is HUGE. I’ve had tape in extensions before and not only were they extremely annoying and high maintenance but they destroyed my hair. The beaded rows are designed so they won’t rip your hair out and since the weight is evenly distributed around your head, there is no tension if it accidentally gets yanked on.
CONS – They are expensive…and there is no real way to get around that. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. Most run around $1500 for installation but it is much cheaper when you are just getting the beads moved up. Usually around $300 for maintenance. I understand that this price may seem extremely unreasonable to most people but when it comes to my hair, it is something that gives me a ton of confidence. I absolutely LOVE my hair extensions and couldn’t imagine life without them. I also am extremely concerned with the health of my hair and would not sacrifice that for a cheaper alternative.
I hope I was able to answer any of the questions you were wondering about but please email me if there is anything else I left out, as I would love to help you on your hair care journey!
Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!! It’s a GOOD one!!
XOXO,
Taylor
